Over the next few weeks we'll be highlighting some of these classic films right here on our blog. Today's highlights are all based on novels, and tell the dramatic stories of brave children who are plucked from their homes and the lives that they're used to, and must overcome great challenges.

Set in Victorian London, The Little Princess (1939) is a famous classic starring American sweetheart Shirley Temple, directed by Walter Lang, and is based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett.  Sara Crewe (Temple) is sent to live at Miss Minchin's School, by her father when he goes to Africa to fight in the Second Boer War. Little Lord Fauntleroy (1936), also based on a novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, tells the story of Ceddie (played by Freddie Bartholomew), who lives with his mother in Brooklyn, New York, after his English father dies. Ceddie's grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt, had disowned Ceddie's father for marrying an American, but when the Earl's remaining son dies, he accepts Ceddie as his heir, Lord Fauntleroy. Ceddie moves in with his cold grandfather and tries to overcome their differences. This film is available to viewers worldwide.

Great Expectations (1946), a film based on the famous novel by Charles Dickens, is about the orphan, Pip, who received an offer from a mysterious benefactor to transform him into a gentlemen. The film won Academy Awards for Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography and was nominated for three more: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. This film is available to viewers worldwide.

Lunafly Hangs Out with Viki Fans

On December 12th, Viki hosted its first ever Google+ Hangout with talented new boy group, Lunafly, and fans from around the world. Check out the highlights of this fun event, including hair jokes, photo tricks, and live singing below!

We started broadcasting the chat live on the Viki YouTube channel at 8:00PM PST, with fans from the United Kingdom, Colombia, the United States, and Saudi Arabia joining from home. Lunafly was surprised to see that they had fans from so many different places; and the girls were more than happy to invite them to perform in their country.

After a round of introductions, the fans asked one question each to the members of Lunafly, including what advice they had for their fans, how they first became a group, and what has been their most meaningful experience since debut.

Sam Carter, being the group leader and a native English speaker, answered first and helped his fellow Lunafly members express their own answers. Yun shared a touching memory of seeing fans from other countries singing along to his songs for the first time. And Teo proved to be the most playful of the group, activating funny sound effects all throughout the hangout session.

After fulfilling a special birthday request for the friend of one of the fans (Nonochii on Viki), Lunafly agreed to sing a few songs from their album - and the harmony of their voices sounded great even over the hangout. But that wasn't the end of the fanservice and surprises: Lunafly signed CD's for each of the fans, taking special care to spell all the names correctly.

The boys of Lunafly proved not only to be talented entertainers, but warm-hearted and considerate individuals. We wish them the best and hope to catch up with them again soon. Thank you to the fans who participated (shinteo, LeiidyReyez, Lina Trejos, Nonochii, kakashiandme), to the Viki team in Korea who helped make the event possible and who interpreted Korean & English, and to Lunafly for taking the time to share an unforgettable conversation with all of us. One fan, Ellen (shinteo), expressed her thanks and gave her own recap of the hangout on her YouTube channel.

Several stars had successful TV comebacks in 2012. After 12 years away from dramas, Jang Dong Gun still had the same charm in his return to 'Gentleman's Dignity.'

This year also brought great body-swapping K-Dramas and time traveling shows. From Lee Min Ho as Korean warrior Admiral Choi Young, to Gong Yoo in body swapping hit "Big."

Psy took over the world with his infectious song 'Gangnam Style.' The horse dance choreography helped bring K-pop into the mainstream. The boys of Super Junior also had explosive dance moves in their hot music video 'Sexy Free and Single.' Which was your favorite?

We hope you enjoyed re-watching all of your favorite videos and sharing them with us on Viki!

Featured Community Member: yolswels091

We have amazing people in the community, and we'd like to start introducing them through the Viki Blog! As the first community member to be featured, yolswels091, has written a story about her life at Viki. We know many of you will be able to relate to her experiences!

Back when I was still in college in my country, the Philippines, I learned about Viikii, (it was spelled like that back then) from some of my classmates who were so fanatical about Korean shows, as well as actors and actresses and K-Pop boy bands. I'm a very serious student so I didn't pay attention to it. I wasn't into it even though Korean shows started to infiltrate Filipino television. It wasn't until a friend of mine recommended that I watch Goong and Boy Over Flowers that I actually liked watching other Korean shows.

So I created an account on and learned that it's a community-based website. It didn't interest me that much as I didn't have time to explore the whole website. I was still in school and studying seriously, so for me it was one of those websites where you create an account and forget about it after a few days. Yeah, it's true.

After graduating from the University, I went to US and started working. It was the kind of job that kills your social life, so I looked for help from my laptop and that became my best friend. To kill time, I started watching shows on the net. Then I remembered Viikii.

Viikii was still there. I had forgotten my previous account so I decided to make a new one dated September 15, 2010, one that is still alive now. It was really hard for me at the beginning. I didn't have friends or any contact for that matter. I can't even remember who the first user was that I made contact with. So after looking through and exploring the website, trying to learn to navigate the whole thing, I still ended up quite confused about how everything works. What got me started was finding some of my fellow countrymen on Viikii. BINGO! It's a translation site. That's what Viikii is all about.

I started as a Tagalog subber. At first, I was scolded. I translated some lines in Sungkyunkwan Scandal without anybody's permission. But I didn't know there was a system of Channel Managers, moderators and such. I can't remember what happened after that, but I ended up as a regular Tagalog subber for some dramas. I'm quite diligent and looking at how my subbing credits increased by the minute made my day. lol

After a couple of months of subbing, I felt envious of other users. They're had some big roles in channels and I feeling bored with subbing. English is the second language in the Philippines, so translating English to Tagalog isn't that necessary. What really interested me were the segmenters. "They're so cool," I thought back then. It's like they have their own world in Viikii.

Then I learned about SEG101. I'd say that they did a great job at scaring people -- the Channel was really intimidating... lol. At the time, they were celebrating their first anniversary. They had a very long list of aspiring students so the wait looked like it would forever. Luckily, I found out about their Avatar Contest, and that they were giving admissions to the top 3 winners. So I joined and submitted 2 avatars. I was actually surprised by the results because the avatar that I didn't have any expectations for got the votes and won me 3rd place. It was a very simple avatar design -- it was a person holding scissors, a globe and a film strip.

So I became a SEG101 newbie. I concentrated on learning the proper way to segment alongside with my mentor FTHIA. After a few months, I graduated. With my SEG101 badge, I had the confidence that I could finally segment.

My first contributions as a segmenter were in Lie To Me, which I think was one of the first Korean Dramas Viki licensed. My first day segmenting on a real project was a mess. I got the first part on episode 1, and I thought it took me forever to finish. My God, I was so conscious of my timings and everything. But as episodes went on, I got my confidence to race alongside with the segmenting veterans. Sadly, Lie to Me didn't do well. But I was still optimistic and had started to love segmenting -- it was my first segmenting project after all. After the show ended, I became Lie to Me's number 1 segmenter garnering the highest number of segments.

Becoming a Viki user was much more helpful than I thought. I said earlier that my job could kill a social life. I didn't choose it because I'm a loner or anything, but it's just that some people, like me, just don't have the luxury to choose a better job yet. But it gives me a lot of time to be on Viki. That's basically the life that I have right now, and I have gained lots of friends across the globe which is the best experience of all.

Thank you, yolswels091 for being such an awesome member of the community!

Hyun Bin Returns from Military Service

In only two days, Hallyu star Hyun Bin will be discharged from the Korean military after completing 21 months of service. It's hard to believe that it has been almost two years since one of the most popular actors in Korea left the acting scene to fulfill his duty in the military. We're looking forward to seeing him back on the screen in a new drama or movie, but for now, we can look back and enjoy his past roles. Take this fun poll on our Facebook page to vote for your favorite Hyun Bin character!

Hyun Bin will be discharged on Dec. 6

In Snow Queen (눈의 여왕), Han Tae-Woong is a young math genius who quits school and runs away from home after learning that he may have caused the suicide of his best friend. Saddled with guilt, he changes his name and joins a boxing club. Hyun Bin's portrayal of a rough, street-smart fighter with a troubled past is a far cry from his more famous K-Drama "prince" characters. This drama is available in US & Canada.

World Within (그들이 사는 세상) was the start of Hyun Bin's famed relationship with his A-list co-star, Song Hye Gyo. In this drama, he plays a charismatic TV producer from a poor farmer's family, who teaches the cold, reserved Joo Joon Young how to express her feelings and learn to trust others. This drama is available in US & Canada.

The role that pushed Hyun Bin into the global spotlight was the spoiled hotelier in My Name is Kim Sam-Soon (내 이름은 김삼순). The rude, immature Kim Jin-heon tries his best to push around his newly-hired patissier, but she throws the insults right back in his face, making for one of the funniest romantic comedies in all of K-Drama. This show is available in US, Canada, Middle East and Africa.

Hyun Bin most recently captured fans in body-switching drama, Secret Garden (스크릿 가든). Taking "eccentric" to the extreme, Kim Joo-Won refuses to ride in elevators, talks to imaginary people, and insists on wearing his velour track jackets zipped to the top. And just when you think he's about to fall in love with the tough stuntwoman (played by Ha Ji Won), the two switch bodies in an unbelievable twist. This drama is available worldwide except in select countries.

Each of Hyun Bin's characters is different, and lovable in their own way. What type of role do you want to see him take on for his comeback performance?
