5 Reasons to Watch New K-Drama ‘Basketball’

Did you catch the premiere of the hot new K-drama, Basketball this week on Viki? The show airs every Monday and Tuesday, so add the channel to your Favorites and cheer on the Slam Dunk Team of volunteer translators!

Here are five reasons we think you should check out the new series:

Basketball As a Full-Contact Sport

Old-school basketball was a free-for-all brawl-fest, as you can see from the hard-hitting trailer below. The former director of Slave Hunters/Chuno is sure to bring us the best in action scenes!

Lots of Hunky Eye Candy

We can already tell that this show will be full of athletic eye candy. In the first episode, you can spot cameo appearances by hunky stars Lee Jung Jin and Oh Ji Ho. And we cant resist the expressive eyes and ear-to-ear smile of lead actor Do Ji Han. Finally, our heros suave rival is played by former fashion model, Jung Dong Hyun.

Increase Your Korean History IQ

Basketball is based on the true story of Koreas first national basketball team, which made it to the 1948 Olympics in London. That means you can enjoy the drama while getting your Korean history education, too!

A timed comment on the first episode: yay get to watch a drama + be productive by learning history LOL
Girl Power

Wonder Girls member Ye Eun (Yenny) plays a smart and kind-hearted best friend named Bong Soon. We hope to hear her sing, too!

Wonder Girls' Ye Eun plays Bong Soon

Historic Drama at Its Best

If youre still depressed because Bridal Mask” is no longer on TV, then Basketball can rekindle your Japanese occupation-era angst. Watch Kang San grow up, find love, and inspire a nation while following his passion for basketball.

Like Bridal Mask, Basketball takes place during Japanese imperialism.
Watch the premiere here on Viki and let us know what you think!

Get Ready for Halloween With Drama-Inspired Costumes!

Yikes! Less than two weeks until Halloween, and you still havent figured out a costume yet! Also known as All Hallows’ Eve, the holiday is celebrated in the United States and many other countries in the Western world on October 31 by dressing up in costumes. If you still haven’t picked a costume, weve got you covered! Find inspiration with some of our favorite looks from television dramas!

Boys Over Flowers

Know four very sexy, very rich boys? Then why not go as Jan Di and the F4? All you need to do is have four boys drive expensive cars and have one boy act like Jun Pyo  curly hair and all. Break out into spontaneous fights throughout the evening, and you can easily pass as Jun Pyo and Jan Di!

Innocent Lilies

Here’s another great idea for a quick group costume: dress up as the students from the White Witch Academy! Grab an all-white school uniform (or a white skirt with a sailor shirt) and up to eight friends and youre all set to go! Bonus points if you can replicate all their haircuts and colors!

The Magic Blade

Looking for something totally epic? Dress up as Fu Hong Xue! Hes the son of a legendary Chinese martial artist who seeks revenge against his father’s killers! Plus, its a great excuse to wield a cool-looking sword for the evening!

Falling Skies

Looking to survive a post-apocalyptic Earth? Go ahead and skip washing your hair for a few days and dig out your grungiest-looking pants. If youre really dedicated, you can go ahead and skip showering altogether for a few days! Find a few friends and fight some alien bad guys together on Halloween night!

We hope these suggestions help you to think beyond the zombie, minion or Miley Cyrus costumes that everyone else will be dressing up as this year. Heres to having a happy and safe Halloween!

Note: Having trouble viewing some of these videos in your country? Why not become a QC?

Top 10 Best Drama Couples

They go together like peanut butter and jelly, bacon and eggs, and chocolate and strawberries. These couples from our favorite television dramas have great chemistry, always look out for each other, and simply look great together.

Here is our list of the Top 10 favorite couples from television dramas from around the world.

1. I Hear Your Voice — Soo Ha and Hye Sung

Although Soo Ha (played by Lee Jong Suk) is only 19, and Hye Sung (played by Lee Bo Yeong) is a decade older, he made a promise when he was a boy that he would always protect her from a dangerous killer. When he keeps his promise, even putting his own life at risk, what woman could resist that kind of love and devotion?

2. Love Around  Zhou Zhen and Xiao Shu and Love, Now — Shi De and Yi Ru

What more proof do you need that a couple has great on-screen chemistry than starring in not one — but two — dramas in a row? George Hu and Annie Chen did just that when they starred together as a gangsters son who falls for a bubbly radio DJ in the 2013 Taiwanese drama “Love Around and as a CEO and advertising executive who meet on vacation in the 2012 drama Love, Now.

3. Made in Cartagena — Watusi and Flora

They say that if you can dance well together, then a couple is meant to be together. That is certainly the case for Flora (played by Carmen Villalobos) and Watusi (played by Khris Cifuentes), who set the dance floor on fire with their sizzling rendition of the Champeta, a form of tropical dance that originated in Cartagena, in this 2012 Colombian telenovela.

4. Queen In Hyuns Man — Boong Do and Hee Jin

True love can traverse the time-space continuum and bring you to the love of your life, even if you have to travel 300 years in time to get there. Chosun Dynasty scholar Boong Do (played by Ji Hyun Woo) is transported to modern-day Seoul to meet actress Hee Jin (played by Yoo In Na) to help her prepare for a role of a lifetime. The chemistry was so good on-set that the pair became a true-life couple after the series!

5. Wild Cat — Mario and Rosaura

When you marry the man of your dreams, the road to happily ever after can be very bumpy indeed. But the enduring love of Rosaura (played by Marlene Favela) and Luis Mario (played by Mario Cimarro) shows that love cant be easily extinguished no matter how hard other women may try in this 2002 Venezuela telenovela, which was recently added to Viki.

6. Masters Sun — Joong Won and Gong Sil

You know that a man is meant for you when he can make all the ghosts around you disappear when he touches you. Cool and calculating retail CEO Joong Won (played by So Ji Sub) is a shelter from the scary world that surrounds the sweet, ghost-seeing Gong Sil (played by Gong Hyo Jin) in this 2013 Korean drama.

7. Gu Family Book — Kang Chi and Yeo Wool

Nothing says love like standing by your man even if he turns out to be half-beast. The fearless martial artist Yeo Wool (played by Bae Suzy) doesnt cower or desert Kang Chi (played by Lee Seung Gi) as he discovers his true identity and then struggles to become a real human in this 2013 Korean drama.

8. Just You — Qi Yi and Liang Liang

Qi Yi (played by Aaron Yan), the CEO of a marketing design company, is uptight and fastidious. His employee and unexpected tenant, Liang Liang (played by Puff Guo), is peppy and happy-go-lucky.  The unlikely couple seem to be made for each other when they come together in this 2013 Taiwanese drama.

9. That Winter, The Wind Blows — Oh Soo and Oh Young

In this 2013 Korean melodrama, a conman (played by Jo In Sung) takes on the identity of a dead friend, Oh Soo, and pretends to be the brother of a blind heiress in order to swindle her out of her money. But Soo falls in love with his pretend sister, Oh Young (played by Song Hye Kyo), and becomes her greatest protector.

10. Eva Luna — Daniel and Eva

When you look this good together, a couple can withstand any number of pressures to tear them apart. Eva (played by Blanca Soto) and Daniel (played by Guy Ecker) manage to make their relationship work despite a large number of misunderstandings perpetrated by those who want to break them up in this 2010 Venezuelan telenovela.
